The Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk, Inc. and The Long Island Coalition for the Homeless have partnered to produce a resource directory devoted specifically to the needs of Veterans navigating civilian life on Long Island.
This website is designed for:
1) Veterans and their family members looking for services,
2) service providers looking to make referrals and to network within the Veteran services community,
3) community members looking to support their Veteran neighbors and friends, and
4) landlords and realtors who wish to help house veterans
The Long Island Coalition for the Homeless will open the new Amityville Community Resource Center in early 2014. The center will house 10 organizations serving LI's veterans and homeless persons in one convenient and central location. It will allow for a comprehensive, "one stop" method through which veterans and homeless persons can access housing and services. Our goal is to provide a location where persons in need can make an appointment and get housing assistance, case management, employment training, counseling and other necessary services all in one visit through various agencies. The building will also include a distribution center where persons in need can obtain clothing, food, toiletries and other essentials.
The Amityville Community Center is located at 600 Albany Ave in Amityville, NY and is expected to open in March 2014.
